Surgical expertise across GI, liver, pancreas and minimally invasive care

An overview of the conditions Dr. Suresh Sepuri treats and the surgical approaches used — for general education. Every treatment decision is individualized after clinical evaluation.

01 · GI & Gastrointestinal Surgery

Gastrointestinal Surgery

Surgical gastroenterology covers a range of conditions affecting the food pipe, stomach and intestines — from gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and hernias to appendicitis and bile duct stones.

When to Seek Specialist Evaluation

Persistent heartburn or acid reflux not controlled by medication, a visible or painful abdominal bulge, sudden severe abdominal pain, or symptoms suggestive of bile duct obstruction (such as jaundice) generally warrant evaluation by a surgical gastroenterologist.

Surgical Approach

Many GI conditions can now be addressed through advanced laparoscopic techniques, using small incisions and specialized instruments. The suitability of a minimally invasive approach depends on the specific diagnosis and the individual patient.

Conditions Treated

  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Hernias
  • Appendicitis
  • Bile duct stones

Procedures

  • Laparoscopic fundoplication
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy
  • Laparoscopic common bile duct exploration

02 · Liver & Gallbladder Surgery

Liver & Gallbladder Surgery

Gallstones and other gallbladder conditions are among the most common reasons patients are referred to a GI surgeon. This category also covers bile duct conditions and surgical management of liver disease.

When to Seek Specialist Evaluation

Recurrent upper abdominal pain (especially after fatty meals), jaundice, abnormal liver function tests, or imaging showing gallstones or a liver lesion are reasons to consult a specialist.

Surgical Approach

Gallbladder removal is most commonly performed laparoscopically. Bile duct stones may require laparoscopic exploration of the duct. Liver surgery, including hepatectomy (partial removal of the liver), is planned based on the size, location and nature of the condition.

Conditions Treated

  • Gallbladder diseases & gallstones
  • Bile duct conditions
  • Liver diseases

Procedures

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
  • Laparoscopic common bile duct exploration
  • Hepatectomy (liver surgery)
  • Laparoscopic liver resection

03 · Pancreatic Surgery

Pancreatic Surgery

The pancreas plays a central role in digestion and blood sugar regulation. Pancreatic surgery is among the more complex areas of GI surgery, requiring specialist training in both diagnosis and operative technique.

When to Seek Specialist Evaluation

Recurrent upper abdominal pain radiating to the back, unexplained weight loss, or imaging findings suggestive of chronic pancreatitis or a pancreatic mass should prompt referral to a pancreatic surgeon.

Surgical Approach

Treatment depends on the underlying condition — ranging from careful medical management of acute pancreatitis, to duct drainage procedures for chronic pancreatitis, to more extensive resections such as the Whipple procedure for lesions of the head of the pancreas, or distal pancreatectomy for lesions in the tail. Where the disease allows, parenchyma-preserving techniques are used to remove the affected segment while conserving as much healthy pancreatic tissue as possible.

Conditions Treated

  • Acute pancreatitis
  • Chronic pancreatitis
  • Pancreatic diseases

Procedures

  • Whipple procedure (pancreaticoduodenectomy)
  • Laparoscopic Whipple procedure
  • Distal pancreatectomy
  • Parenchyma-preserving pancreatic surgery, including central pancreatectomy
  • Lateral pancreaticojejunostomy

04 · Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery

Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic ("keyhole") surgery uses small incisions, a camera and specialized instruments instead of a large open incision. For selected conditions, this may offer benefits such as smaller scars and a potentially faster return to normal activity — though suitability always depends on the individual case.

When to Seek Specialist Evaluation

If you have been advised to undergo abdominal surgery, it is reasonable to ask whether a laparoscopic approach is appropriate for your specific condition and anatomy.

Surgical Approach

Dr. Suresh applies advanced laparoscopic technique across a wide range of GI, hepatobiliary and colorectal procedures, selecting the approach best suited to each patient after clinical assessment.

Procedures

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy
  • Laparoscopic common bile duct exploration
  • Laparoscopic inguinal & ventral hernia repair
  • Laparoscopic fundoplication
  • Laparoscopic hemicolectomy
  • Laparoscopic low anterior resection
  • Laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection
  • Laparoscopic gastrectomy
  • Laparoscopic appendectomy
  • Laparoscopic liver resection
  • Laparoscopic Whipple procedure

05 · Hernia Surgery

Hernia Surgery

A hernia occurs when an internal organ or tissue pushes through a weak point in the surrounding muscle wall, most commonly in the groin (inguinal) or abdomen (ventral).

When to Seek Specialist Evaluation

A visible bulge that increases with straining or coughing, discomfort during activity, or sudden pain with a firm, non-reducible lump warrants prompt surgical assessment.

Surgical Approach

Both laparoscopic and open repair techniques are used, with mesh reinforcement where clinically indicated. The choice of approach depends on hernia type, size and patient factors. Dr. Suresh has a special focus and high level of experience in recurrent hernia repair using laparoscopic surgery, while continuing to manage all other types of hernias.

Conditions Treated

  • Inguinal hernia
  • Ventral hernia
  • Recurrent hernia (special focus)

Procedures

  • Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair
  • Laparoscopic ventral hernia repair
  • Laparoscopic recurrent hernia repair

06 · Colorectal Surgery

Colorectal Surgery

Colorectal surgery addresses diseases of the colon and rectum, including cancers, requiring careful staging and a surgical plan tailored to the location and extent of disease.

When to Seek Specialist Evaluation

Persistent change in bowel habit, rectal bleeding, unexplained weight loss, or abnormal findings on colonoscopy should be evaluated by a colorectal surgeon.

Surgical Approach

Depending on the location and stage of disease, procedures range from laparoscopic hemicolectomy for right- or left-sided colon disease to low anterior resection or abdominoperineal resection for rectal disease.

Conditions Treated

  • Colon & rectal diseases
  • Colon & rectal cancers
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) surgery — Crohn's disease & ulcerative colitis

Procedures

  • Laparoscopic hemicolectomy
  • Laparoscopic low anterior resection
  • Laparoscopic abdominoperineal resection

07 · Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery

Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery

As a Bariatric Surgeon, Dr. Suresh Sepuri offers bariatric surgery as a surgical option for patients with obesity and related metabolic conditions, considered after other approaches have been explored and a thorough clinical assessment has been carried out.

When to Seek Specialist Evaluation

Patients with obesity-related health conditions who have not achieved adequate results with lifestyle and medical management may benefit from a surgical consultation to review candidacy.

Surgical Approach

Bariatric procedures are performed laparoscopically, with the specific procedure selected on an individual basis after detailed evaluation.

Procedures

  • Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy
  • Mini gastric bypass (MGB)
  • Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB)

08 · Proctology / Anorectal Surgery

Proctology / Anorectal Surgery

Piles (hemorrhoids), anal fissure and anal fistula are common but often under-discussed anorectal conditions that respond well to timely, appropriate treatment.

When to Seek Specialist Evaluation

Bleeding during bowel movements, pain during or after defecation, a lump near the anus, or persistent discharge are reasons to seek a specialist opinion rather than self-treat.

Surgical Approach

Treatment ranges from conservative management to minimally invasive options such as laser treatment for piles, or stapled hemorrhoidectomy for more advanced disease — selected based on severity and patient preference.

Conditions Treated

  • Piles / hemorrhoids
  • Anal fissure
  • Anal fistula

Procedures

  • Laser treatment for piles
  • Stapled hemorrhoidectomy

09 · Liver Transplantation

Liver Transplantation

Liver transplantation is considered for patients with advanced or end-stage liver disease where the liver can no longer function adequately. It is a highly specialized area requiring dedicated transplant training.

When to Seek Specialist Evaluation

Patients with advanced chronic liver disease, cirrhosis-related complications, or specific liver cancers may be referred for transplant evaluation by their treating physician or hepatologist.

Background & Experience

Dr. Suresh's experience in liver transplantation was developed during his tenure as Associate Consultant in the Department of Liver Transplant at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, and continues in his current practice at PACE Hospitals, Hyderabad.

Focus Area

  • Liver transplantation
  • Pre- & post-transplant surgical care
